As an insider in healthcare for more than 20 years, today is an exciting day for me. Picis, the company I co-founded with Liz Popovich and helped grow into an international software company with 700 employees, is being acquired by Ingenix, a leading HIT, consulting and services company with nearly 6,000 hospital clients around the world.
This is a classic “win-win-win” situation that will benefit us, Ingenix, and all our customers and prospects. With all that is going on in healthcare industry today, I can tell you from the heart that the timing was perfect for this transaction, and this is truly the best possible home for Picis in which to grow and prosper.
This is a win for all of us here at Picis, because it infuses us with new strength. Ingenix is a $1.8 billion company, which will allow us to invest and grow faster than we could have done on our own. Ingenix is at the forefront of the era of “health intelligence,” a key place to be amid market forces and healthcare reform that dramatically increase the need for more data-driven decision and analysis tools.
Picis brings a whole new capability to Ingenix in being able to deliver the right information to the right place at the right time. Our products and services complement their solutions, and we will become the high-acuity experts within their well-established provider business unit. I am pleased that I, along with Chris, Liz and Melissa, and the entire senior management team will be retained by Ingenix. This demonstrates their desire to not only leverage Picis for the market-leading solutions we’ve helped build, but also for our high-acuity market expertise and management capabilities.
For our customers and prospects, this is a great opportunity for Ingenix and Picis together to expand our solutions and leverage growth opportunities stimulated by ARRA HITECH funding and the changes coming in healthcare globally. We will continue to invest in the high-acuity segment of healthcare to enhance the solutions we provide, and to offer innovative software and services that allow clinicians to improve outcomes and efficiencies.
A UnitedHealth Group company, Ingenix is based near Minneapolis and employs more than 11,000 people – including doctors, nurses and other healthcare experts who understand the clinical needs of providers and are committed to solutions that provide and capture information essential for decision support, patient care records and proper reimbursement.
Our organization, including our offices in the U.S. and Western Europe, will continue to operate as they do today. Together, Picis and Ingenix can continue to innovate, grow and make a positive impact on healthcare systems around the world.
